LANDSURFER
Last Sunday we were driving over the Brouwersdam. The temperature was around 0 Celcius and I guess the wind force might have been 13-16 knts. Actually quite cold and of course, we didn't expect to see any sails were normally on a nice average day you would see hundreds at this spot. On the water at least.
Luckily I was carrying my campact camera with me for pics and movie.
See movie below
There was one sail moving on land, to our surprise, and we decided to have a look who was busy land surfing.
This guy invented his own land surfer and was trying it out again, last time the fork of his front wheel broke at 35 km/h and he had now re-enforced it. His goal was to make a land / ice surf board with similar behavior as a normal windsurf board. (or as close as possible to it). Canting the board and making the curve, etc.
The tubular frame construction looked light and it had been designed with the CAD tool. A self made oversized truck forced with springs at the back of the board keeps it horizontal and improved steering by canting the board. Weight had definitely been an important parameter during the design and well taken care of. Executed with kite-board foot straps to step in easier with normal shoes.
Anyway, we thought it would be nice to share this with you, this Local was busy with his hobby while most of us were drinking hot chocolate. And the concept, in my eyes, must have potential. I really would like to see the modified version on ice. Lets hope that it will happen still this year!!!
Good job!
