" BE AGGRESSIVE AND OBSERVATIVE, AND BE COMPLETELY FOCUSSED IN THE MOMENT"
IT was definitely time for LOCALSAILING.NL to interview a DUTCH top windsurfer. Peter Volwater NED24, one of the best Dutch windsurfers at the moment, took some time for an interview with us and again an interview with quite some detailed information.
Talking about the design changes of the new FANATIC Falcon and sailing improvements. The variety of fins Peter is using and last but not least about MAUISAILS and the modification of next year.
Is he going for a speed record this year?........
If you are curious then relax and read it all here!

Gaining some some experience in building carbon masts while helping one of my friends with his mast making company, although these masts were not intended to be used in windsurf sails at all but on dinghies like the Finn and the Europe. While making these masts you learn that mast stiffness and bending curve is influenced by the amount of carbon material which is used in a specific part of the mast.
" to manufacture the masts as good as can be and as good as PWA competitors deserves them to be" Tine Slabe
The bending curve in these cases was pretty much decided by the sail type and sail brand the sailor used, his weight and last but not least the sailors specific preference of how the sail should react on the mast.
The quality of the mast itself strongly depends on the curing process of the epoxy resin with the base material, like carbon in most race mast cases, in an autoclave.
How is this done with windsurfing masts? LOCALSAILING.NL asked
Tine Slabe SLO 6, Marketing en sales manager and founder Sašo V. Jančigaj of Carbontech in Slovenia about the secrets of mast manufacturing. Tine is competing in the PWA slalom as well with sail nr. SLO 6.
Karin Jaggi is currently the no. 1 in the PWA women slalom ranking. This year it all seems to get together, the Boards from Patrik and Sails from Severne. Again, Localsailing.nl is proud that a Top PWA slalom racer is willing to share her race secrets in this article.
If you want to ga faster with your gear, if you want to have more control when needed, if you want to beat your friends on the slalom course or you feel like winning today!!! Then you should definitely read this.
Karin really goes into details about sail trim, footstrap positions, boom height, etc.
And best of all attitude: NEVER GIVE UP!!
Griag Spottiswood (Spotty) is one of the fastest windsurfers in the world. With a max GPS speed of 92,62km/h. His homespot is Sandy Point in Australia and he has been into speedsurfing for many years now. Time for Localsailing.nl to get to know Spotty a little bit better and of course to ask him about his gear and in particular the trimming of it.
So, if you are interested in how to improve your personal speedrecord or how to trim a KaKoncept for a record run then read on!

Mauisails gave us the opportunity to have an interview with one of the windsurf legends; Phil Mcgain AUS7. Phil is PWA Vice Chairman, former PBA world champion course racing (and a lot more titles in slalom, formula and course racing) and last but not least president of Mauisails.
Since we like to know everything about trimming and tuning equipment we asked him about the TR6 race sails and Carbon Art boards. A recap of the past and what the future will bring us in sail design. An insight of how Mauisails develops their race sails and more about Phil himself.
If you want to know more about Phil, Mauisails and the TR6, get something to drink and read on.

If there is one sail brand at the moment extremely active in acquiring new team members and putting forward new sail designs it is GAASTRA. Especially the new VAPOR design is refreshing compared to the former one, to say the least. Time for Localsailing.nl to figure out how to trim this sail so that you can use it to its fullest potential.
We asked Kevin Pritchard US-3 about his opinion of the new VAPOR and how to trim it. Unfortunately, he had no photo's available, so I went out yesterday and shot some of Jordi Vonk NED600 and his training buddies when they were training with the new VAPOR at the Grevelingen.

One of the most recent teamrider changes in the windsurf world, we all have read about in the media, was that of Jesper Orth (AUS 10) going to KaSails.
Time for Localsailing to ask some questions about Jesper's specific trim and tune tips of his new gear. Jesper is giving us very extensive info about how he is tuning the KaSail Koncept, in combination with the RRD boards and Vector fins. If you want to be in front part of your slalom fleet, then read on!!
"Maximum speed as early as possible, explosive acceleration."
These words mark the Exocet RS boards in the product brochure. When going through the brochure, the boards look extremely nice, both shape and print design. We've asked Koen Sonck (Exocet/The Loft/Select) if he could tell us about the new RS boards of Exocet and the sails of The Loft he uses. Where are these boards designed for; full downwind slalom, or for difficult long distance races with different courses, or can we use them for GPS racing.
Koen will give us his expert opinion about it. Hopefully he will give us some tuning tips for these machines as well.
So, when you are curious about Koen's tips: READ ON!!!!!

The new Simmer Style SCR race sails are together with the Gaastra Vapor race sails executed with the most remarkable design feature in 2010; the integrated clew. And we are very curious about the performance differences in practice of these designs.
Sylvain Moussilmani F73 ranked 16th (missing the Ulsan world cup event) in the PWA slalom tour in 2009 and 8th in 2008, was willing to tell us about the new Simmer Style SCR Race sails, how he prepares for a slalom race and his PWA 63 board sail combinations.
Hope you like it.

Just after the launch of the 2010 Angulo Magnum models, we had the opportunity to ask Kurosh Kiani the new team rider for Angulo (and Simmer), about his experience of the new Angulo Magnums. He didn't had the chance yet to use the boards during a slalom event but did test the new Magnum 82 and 72 in Cabo Verde where the Angulo HQ is located.
Like last years Magnums, the boards have been designed with the typical reduced nose area shape.
If you would like to learn more about which fins to use and tuning of the New Magnums then read on......

Exocet’s new Warp-100 formula race board performed extremely well during last month’s Argentinian nationals, 1st and 3rd place. In order to speed up the Formula racers with tuning of the board, Localsailing.nl asked one of Exocet's top formula racer Gonzalo Costa Hoevel (ARG 3) to reveal his tuning secrets and techniques.
The type of fins, mast foot position, windsurfing techniques, etc. will all be addressed. Pointing high with good speed is a major advantage when sailing up wind in up-wind / down- wind courses. However, not…. when you are going in the wrong direction. (wrong side of the course). Gonzalo explains how he prepares for the race and what to focus on.
So, if you want to gear up fast for the 2010 season; read on!!!!

After reading the race reports of the 25th Lancelin Ocean Classic long distance race down under, I thought it was time to ask some questions about Patrik Diethelm's new boards.
He became second in the Race and made me curious about the trim, equipment combinations and strategy of long distance racing.

LS: Can you tell us more about the board , fin an sail combination you used during the Lancelin Ocean Classic?
PD: The weather forecast was light winds for the whole day so I used North Sails Warp 9.0 with Platinium 520 mast. The board I choose my biggest board “Patrik Slalom 135” (83cm wide) as normally in the middle of the race the wind is always dropping and it was too risky to take smaller equipment. As most of the race is downwind I choose a 42cm fin which I just tested 10 minutes before the race. The whole set up was just perfect but unfortunately the wind picked up a lot and I was very overpowered. I am really happy about my result and it definitely proofed that the equipment is easy to control.
